Early Life and Career

Audrey Hepburn was born Audrey Kathleen Ruston on May 4, 1929, in Brussels, Belgium. Her father, Joseph Victor Anthony Ruston, was a British diplomat, and her mother, Ella van Heemstra, was a Dutch baroness. Hepburn spent her early childhood in Brussels, but her family moved to England when she was six years old. She attended boarding school in England and Switzerland, where she developed a love of dance and theater. Hepburn made her acting debut in 1948 in the West End production of "High Button Shoes." She went on to star in several other West End productions before making her film debut in 1951's "The Lavender Hill Mob."

International Film Career

Hepburn's breakthrough role came in 1953 when she starred in the romantic comedy "Roman Holiday." Her performance as Princess Ann won her an Academy Award for Best Actress. Hepburn went on to star in a number of successful films throughout the 1950s and 1960s, including "Sabrina" (1954), "Funny Face" (1957), "Breakfast at Tiffany's" (1961), and "My Fair Lady" (1964). She died of cancer on January 20, 1993, at the age of 63.
