Were There To Win Riders Marc Mueller Approaching Return To Calgary As Business Trip

We're there to win': Riders' Marc Mueller approaching return to Calgary as business trip

CFL: Mueller ready for emotional return to Calgary after stints with Argos and Lions

Riders defensive lineman Marc Mueller has no hard feelings towards Stampeders organization ahead of Saturday's game, says he's 'there to win a football game'

REGINA - Marc Mueller insists there will be no mixed emotions when he returns to Calgary this weekend to face his former team, the Stampeders.

The veteran defensive lineman spent six seasons with the Stamps, helping them win a Grey Cup championship in 2018.

But he was released by Calgary in February of 2021 and signed with the Toronto Argonauts.

Mueller spent last season with the B.C. Lions before signing with the Saskatchewan Roughriders in February.

He said it will be strange to be on the other side of the field at McMahon Stadium, but he's focused on helping the Riders win.

"It's going to be a weird experience, for sure," Mueller said. "But at the end of the day, I'm a Saskatchewan Roughrider now. I'm there to win a football game."

Mueller said he has no hard feelings towards the Stampeders organization.

"They made a business decision," he said. "I understand that. I'm not going to hold anything against them."

Mueller said he's grateful for the time he spent in Calgary.

"I had a great six years there," he said. "I made a lot of great friends. I won a Grey Cup there.

But he's also excited to be a part of the Riders.

"I love it here," he said. "I love the fans. I love the city. I love the team.

Mueller said he's looking forward to the challenge of facing his former team.

"It's going to be a great game," he said. "I'm excited to go out there and compete."

The Riders and Stampeders will face off at McMahon Stadium on Saturday night (8 p.m. MT).
